Remind me again?

Therefore I intend always to Remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.”
— 2 Peter 1:12.

“I know where

I’m going!”

was my diatribe in the car as my wife Kasey would remind me to turn up here, or the next exit is ours.  After years of proving that I often did not know where I was going (geographically challenged that I am), I began to welcome the reminders. Peter, in his 2nd New Testament letter, reminded his readers that developing seven character qualities was a lifestyle requirement for serious followers of Jesus:

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.  For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 1:5-8.

Reminders are good – I am so easily distracted from the main and the plain. Because I want to be more like Jesus, dear Father, help me to add to my faith these qualities, that I may be effective and fruitful.  Would you take a moment and meditate on these verses with the intention of being fruitful and effective in your discipleship journey?  And, uh, Kasey, thanks for the reminders!
